Notable Programmes and Events

Advanced Elective Module (AEM): Product Design at Ngee Ann Poly

This year, our Sec 3 D&T students had the opportunity to delve into Product Design via an AEM Programme conducted at Ngee Ann Polytechnic during the June holidays. The session was made even more meaningful as it focussed on product design for people with physical impairments.

Catch our students’ reflections about that session at #iamareflectivedesigner

Open Studios 2017 Art Exhibition

The MF Art Unit celebrated the aesthetic achievements of its Visual Art students by holding an Art exhibition, the Open Studio, on 12 April 2017. A plethora of artworks including photography, painting, illustration, sculpture, collage and assemblage produced by students in 2016 and 2017 were featured in the exhibition. The visitors were impressed by the rigour of the programme, the technical competencies visible in the exhibits as well as the profound themes selected by our students to work on. Needless to say, the Art teachers and students were encouraged by the positive affirmation.

Advanced Elective Module (AEM): Science in Bread Making @ Temasek Polytechnic

Our Sec 3EX/NA Food and Nutrition students attended a 4-day intensive course, learning about the science and art in bread making. The course was held during the June holidays at Temasek Polytechnic. The course covered the basics of bread making including the function of key ingredients as well the sensory applications in baking. It was an enriching course for the students as the exposure gave them a better understanding and appreciation of the technicalities with regards to the baking of bread.

Achievements 2017

Design & Technology (D&T) Awards 2017

Two of our Sec 4 D&T students’ works (2016) were shortlisted for the 2017 Design & Technology Awards. Organised by the D&T Educators Society, the Awards recognised Henry Ng's and Lin Yiqiu's works for their good design concepts. In the end, Henry’s work was selected as one of the award winning entries under the Creative Adaptation category. His product, called the Golden Monkey Key Holder was designed especially for the elderly. The user-friendly design is meant to make it easier for the elderly to keep their keys safe and within easy reach. It also comes with a light feature for use in the dark and a buzzer for the elderly to alert anyone nearby if help is needed.
