Science Talent Development 2024
2024 is an exciting year for the Science department where our students enjoyed multiple platforms and opportunities to stretch their potential in Science beyond the textbooks. 4 teams submitted their projects for the 25th International Elementz Fair organised by ASRJC. The teams explored a diverse range of topics that enabled their scientific learning to be enhanced.
We are proud that the team comprising of Kayla Koh 3A, Liew Hng Yee 3A and Teo Pei Ann 3A represented Mayflower Secondary School at the finals on 16 April 2024, where they achieved a Bronze award for their project on Investigating The Effects Of Sleep On Learning And Memory Among 13 To 15 Year Olds.
The girls went on to extend their project to develop an application prototype for submission for the Samsung Solve For Tomorrow competition to track the sleep hours of the students and encourage the collective efforts of community to clock sufficient sleep hours.

Beyond competitions, our department has organised learning journeys to NeWater plant and I-Fly Programme, external workshops such as Squid Dissection by Young Nautilus and Making Strawberry Jam and Scones by Science Centre and in-house workshops such as Lip Balm to commemorate Mother’s Day, for our students to experience joy in the learning of Science. We hope to continue organising these activities for the development of our students’ active learning in Science.
