Character and Citizenship Education
At Mayflower Secondary School, our CCE programme shapes students into well-rounded individuals prepared to contribute to society. Through lessons, practical experiences, and learning that connects different subjects, we focus on developing four key areas in every student.
Our CCE Goals
Good Character forms the foundation of our programme, where we guide students to develop a sound moral compass and strong sense of right and wrong. Students learn to think critically and ethically, take responsibility for their choices, show care for others, and strive for excellence in all they do.
Our character development follows a progressive values framework across the secondary years.

Resilience and Social-Emotional Well-being is cultivated through helping students develop a balanced sense of self and the ability to form healthy relationships. Our programme builds resilience to face life's challenges, supports students in finding meaning and purpose, and nurtures gratitude and appreciation for life's experiences.
Active Citizenship develops through fostering a strong national identity rooted in genuine belonging to Singapore. Students gain hope in themselves and the future whilst developing awareness of Singapore's unique vulnerabilities and constraints.
Future Readiness ensures our students develop a clear sense of purpose in life alongside the essential dispositions of adaptability and lifelong learning. This preparation enables them to navigate education and career pathways purposefully and confidently take on future challenges, including the evolving world of work.
The design and implementation of our CCE experience is guided by the CCE Curriculum Frame:
How We Achieve These Goals
CCE Lesson
Our structured CCE lessons provide explicit teaching of school values and social-emotional competencies to address students' holistic developmental needs. Students learn to understand and regulate their emotions, manage relationships effectively, and develop their sense of purpose in life. These lessons equip students with knowledge and skills to better understand real-world contexts through discussions on contemporary issues, enabling them to grasp current community and global realities whilst reflecting on their national identity and developing civic consciousness.
Key Student Development Experiences
We provide rich experiential learning opportunities that contribute to holistic development across physical, aesthetic, intellectual, moral and social domains. These include Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs), cohort learning journeys, Education and Career Guidance experiences, National Education Commemorative Days, NRIC Presentation Ceremonies, Outdoor Adventure Learning cohort camps, Student Leadership Development programmes, and Values-in-Action projects.
Cross-Curricular Integration
Our CCE objectives are reinforced through other subjects including Social Studies, History, Music, and Art, which provide content knowledge and opportunities for exploring national identity, contemporary issues, and Singapore's constraints and vulnerabilities. Physical Education contributes by teaching sportsmanship and encouraging students to take responsibility for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Through this comprehensive and integrated approach, Mayflower's CCE programme prepares our students not just for academic success, but for life as engaged, responsible, and contributing citizens of Singapore and the world.
