Inter-Class Dance Competition

Both Sec 1 and 2 students developed dance skills at the beginning of the year and this culminated in an Inter-Class Competition. We are proud of the students who performed in front of the huge audience, showing their determination and developing confidence in public performance.

Musical Compositions

Sec 2 students also explored how dance and art could help with their creation of musical compositions. They learnt about common concepts between these 3 art forms, how they provide different perspectives and inspiration for their musical compositions. Through the availability of technology, students were able to create many credible musical works.

Participation in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF)

In the first semester of the year, students from the General Music Programme participated in the different activities organized for this year’s Singapore Youth Festival.  Roshan Emmanuel Mano (Sec. 2A) performed his original composition titled “Family” at the Esplanade.  He was accompanied by Faustina Lim (Sec. 2A) and Samuel Tan (Sec. 1I).

Darryl Kwek (S2F), Song Jiawei, Joy Lim and Zhang Yilin submitted drawings for the SYF motif competition. Their drawings were inspired by the Bunt’s song “Young hearts”.

Hybrid PE

In our efforts to engage a new generation of IT savvy students, the PE Department introduced a new pedagogical platform called Hybrid PE in Sec 1 classes. Using Google+, students posted videos of themselves performing various tasks related to the game module – football, floor ball and badminton. Students would comment on their own performance as well as the performance of their peers. Teachers also gave feedback to improve performance.

Our school Cross-Country was held on 17 May this year at Sengkang Riverside Park, a new and fresh venue, where students were able to enjoy the cross-country run close to nature as well as take part in fringe activities on the hockey pitch.

Sports Carnival cum National Day celebrations

The Sports Carnival cum National Day celebrations was held on 8 August. As a lead-up to the day, our department organised a series of inter-class games for the various levels during PE lessons. These included Powerball for the Sec 1s, Football for the Sec 2s, Basketball for the Sec 3s and Frisbee for the Sec 4s. On the day itself, the finals were held at different venues around the school. Students and staff were involved in the games and everyone had a great time.

The REFRESH Programme

For students who were overweight and severely overweight, The REFRESH programme, run by the Health Promotion Board, was eagerly welcomed by our lower secondary students who needed more support. Fun Nerf gun and archery sessions helped them to be active and improve their well-being. These sessions were conducted over 4 Wednesdays in Term 3.
